The Fleeting Moment

When she was only 16 years old, American poet Emily Dickinson wrote the following in a letter to her friend Abiah Root: "Let us strive together to part with time more reluctantly, to watch the pinions of the fleeting moment until they are dim in the distance & the new coming moment claims our attention."

As the spring rains continue and the days grow longer, what can we do to lean into Dickinson's wisdom? Do you part reluctantly with the moments that slide past, grateful for the joy that God has offered? When you lean into the moments to come, have you embraced every last gift before leaping into the new?

Let us strive together ...

  • to part with time more reluctantly

  • to embrace the current moment fully

  • & to watch for the new moment soaking in the fullness of the moment that just passed

In Psalm 39, David reminds us that life is fleeting: The Lord has made our days "a mere handbreadth," he writes, and "everyone is but a breath." How will you breathe in peace this week, seeking the calm of the Holy Spirit as you embrace life just a little more fully, expecting God's handiwork at every next turn?

Peace on your week,

Jennie
